Hi, I’m Yair Riemer.
I typically write about startups, entrepreneurship, and what I’ve been reading. I’m interested in building strong teams, competition, and productive work cultures.
3 MAJOR INFLUENCES:
- I have a hard time when people ask me, “where are you from?” I switched schools in first, second, third, fifth, and sixth grade – across two countries (Israel and the U.S.) and three states (Massachusetts, South Carolina & New Jersey). There are certainly downsides to this experience. But the upsides: being able to relate to people from different cultures and needing to be self-aware, have shaped who I am and how I think about things.
- I have been fortunate enough to start companies with, be mentored by, and battle in the startup trenches on a daily basis with the likes of Stuart Lander, John Palumbo, Robin Richards, Josh Roth and others. Some of what I write about here, thus, may be inspired by what I’ve learned and experienced with these entrepreneurs. Other than my family, they’ve had the greatest impact on the way I think about things and operate.
- I am a decent two-footed footballer with declining pace and power, multiple sprained ankles, torn hamstrings, and city titles to prove it. I love competition & hard-working teammates. I’ve coached soccer teams in Nashville, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv. I couldn’t agree more with Camus, who said, “After many years in which the world has afforded me many experiences, what I know most surely in the long run about morality and obligations, I owe to football.”
You were one of my major influences from the year: 1992-93, Buena Vista Elementary, fourth grade…. Sounds like you have been busy since then. Hope you are doing well. Mrs. Hartman
Mrs. Hartman – I hope you’re doing well! Just sent you an email. I remember “Hartman’s Hornets,” with great fondness. It was an amazing year. Thank you so much for reconnecting here. Yair
Above you have included a great Camus quote, and this site on the whole is thoughtful, clear, and inspiring. Good work Yair.
